i can’t get over how evil it is that “gap in your resume” is considered a valid reason to not hire someone like “hmmm sorry you weren’t working constantly every day of your life we need people who do nothing but work until they drop dead for us we just don’t think you’re right for the job” fuck youuuu
if we were to look at it through a racial lens, I do find it very interesting that Jupe’s wife is white. that the audience at Star Lasso are majorly white. that he’s basically robbing the Haywoods, a black family, of their horses to feed them to an alien creature for white people’s entertainment. that he was the token asian adoptee in sitcom as a child. the model minority. fitting himself back into a system that used and failed him as a child, so he can find some semblance of respect and power as an adult man, only to still be swallowed up whole.
One thing tos has going for it which none of the rest of trek does is that it has such distinctive music and sound quality that I only need to hear about a half second of any tos audio to send a shot of serotonin directly thru my whole bod
Yeah, the lighting and set design is great too. I genuinely think those aspects of the production quality are higher for TOS than TNG, despite TNG coming out 20 years later. TNG is pretty flatly lit and shot most of the time—my guess being that because TV production was a lot more standardized by then—whereas TOS will make these absolutely wild camera and lighting choices. I really love how distinctive it is, even compared to other 60s shows.
